   When i wanted to start the game Avast said that the steam_api.dll is infected with a Win32:Malware-gen, do you think i can just set it to ignore?

   @Posighdon That kind of flies are called “false positives”. The antivirus detects it as a virus because is a crack, and that means it is a posible threat, so yes just ignore it.

   @Posighdon Antivirus companies get paid by big game companies so their AVs flag every crack as a very very very bad file.

   Sure, there *are* dicks out there who will package some nasty crap into “their” releases, but with time and insight you can easily spot the false “pirates” and avoid them.

    No one has to pay anyone for the Antivirus programs to identify cracks as potential viruses, because many of them they work the same way as some viruses do. Most AV programs correctly distinguish the cracks as hacktools – which they are – instead of trojans or viruses.

    If your AV detects a hacktool in the game, it’s most likely a false positive, but it wouldn’t detect a hacktool as a virus or a trojan.
